I'm Zoë van Baaren — garden designer, Columbia River Gorge resident, and the person behind Garden Riot Designs.
I design gardens for the Columbia River Gorge area. Based in Lyle, Washington, I work in one of the most striking landscapes in the Pacific Northwest — where the light changes every hour, the wind is a constant companion, and the right plant in the right place can stop you in your tracks.
My work is rooted in naturalistic and native plants. I believe that the best gardens support life: pollinators moving through the blossoms, birds in the seed heads, soil that is alive and building. I work with homeowners from Hood River to The Dalles, Stevenson to Lyle, who want gardens that are intentional, site-specific, and built to last.
My process is hands-on from start to finish: site visit, design, build. No handoff, no guesswork.

Full Service Garden Design & Build
From initial concept through construction. Site-specific design, native plant selection, and full build management — coordinating contractors, irrigation, lighting, stonework, and more. Zoë oversees every stage so the garden comes out exactly as intended.

Garden Consultation
A 90-minute site visit with Zoe, followed by a written summary with plant recommendations and a clear roadmap for your project.
